Public hot spring source from which thermal water at 56º flows from Sant Grau Hill. Given the location of this hot spring source, it is believed that it was the upwelling that supplied water to Roman thermal baths. Traditionally, the inhabitants used the water from the hot spring source for domestic use, either to drink or to cook or wash with. To complement their income, some inhabitants would sell the water in tubs to surrounding towns. In the early 19th century, this water was channelled to a small thermal spa known as “Els Banys Nous,” which did not prosper. In the late 19th century, a large part of the spring was purchased by the industrial company Pau Estapé, which reached an agreement with the Town Hall so that locals could have part of the flow for own their needs. In 1902, Mr. Estapé began bottling the water under the name “Vichy Caldense” which would later become “Xala Water” and finally in 1912 “Imperial Water.”
