La Granja is an urban infrastructure project that began in the 1920s, which envisaged the construction of a garden city for summer holiday makers in Caldes. According to the drawings, the stately towers had to be accompanied by garden spaces, with a public park that would be its social centre.
In the first phase of the urban infrastructure development, six 19h century style towers were built, including Vil·la Catalina (Tower No. 1), la Rectoria (Tower No. 2) and Torre dels Cavalls
(Tower No. 5). The public park was named after an existing hot spring source and a well and a snack outlet known as El Casinet were built. The new La Vaca hot spring source is a Modernist style construction with sgraffito walls and a tile with the bovine that gives it the represented name, crowned by a glass tiled dome. The La Granja urban infrastructure project did not prosper due to the crisis of the summer holiday phenomenon and the start of the Civil War.
It is a pleasant and quiet space, and the best place to enjoy the outdoors in summer.
