Old crossroads

4th – 18th centuries. The crossroads of what is now calle de la Llibertat and plaza Petita was in Medieval times Caldes town centre. The northbound road led to Gerona, the eastbound road led to Cassà and Llagostera, the westbound road was the Royal Way of Santa Coloma de Farners and the southbound road was the Vidreres Royal Way. Each of the roads exited the walled municipality from the respective gates, of which there are practically no vestiges. The only sign that is preserved can be found under the section of wall next to Cal Ferrer de la Plaça, where there are remains of the Gerona gate. The cross that is etched on one of the houses of the crossroads is witness to this old intrawall enclave.
